After a productive chat with Dick Strawbridge at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards on Friday, he and his son James have expressed an interest in being involved with the Eco design challenge. Who knows? Maybe in the New Year Dick or James may be coming to help your pupils with their design projects! Check back soon for an update.

Just getting the educational resources ready for uploading to the website. Recycler first….followed swiftly by Energiser, Aqua and Consumer! Any final feedback on the versions trialled at the Inspiration Day, in particular from teachers and subject experts, would be gratefully received. Watch this space….

This came in from Wadebridge today, the Edc team (Chris, Jo and myself) are so happy so many schools enjoyed our Inspiration Day. All schools who attended we are taking as being signed to the whole journey (until July 2010) unless we hear otherwise.

And if you didn’t attend the day you can still join in on Eco so please contact us by phone or email.

Inspiration Feedback please…

Thanks to everyone who made Friday’s Eco design Inspiration Day possible and to all of you who came along, a special thanks must go to you as well.

We’ve been towed back to reality and have sent everyone a feedback form for your views of the event. We’d like as many of you as possible to give your views so that we can make the rest of the challenge as successful as possible.

So far we’ve received forms back from only nine attendees, but with great responses:

“The workshop activities gave it a real context for school delivery – some nice ideas to get students thinking along the right lines that could be taken straight into the classroom.”

“Hearing how the project worked in the North East in 2007 allowed me to see how the project can make a real difference to pupils and the school.”

…Obviously, we understand how busy this time of year is for everyone, but the form need only take a couple of minutes and will be endlessly useful to us.

I’ll also be sending out a separate questionnaire specifically about the teacher and pupil resources this afternoon: watch out for it!

Saving the planet at school – The Guardian

At the end of October, the Guardian highlighted the state of the state school estate and its contribution to CO2 emissions.

The article mentioned Fox Primary School in Notting Hill and the fact that they were one of the first schools in the country to sign up to the 10:10 initiative.

Janet Convery, head of schools and youth at ActionAid, said: “We are very inspired to see how schoolchildren really do care, not only about their environment, but also how climate change is already having such devastating effects on the lives of their peers in the developing world.

What a great Inspiration Day!

It’s now three days since the Teacher Inspiration Day and I think that a good day was had by all. I’m in the process of putting together a questionnaire for everyone who attended to fill out and email back to us. In the meantime I thought I would take you through the next couple of stages of the project.

First of all, the new Edc website will go live very soon with the finishing touches being made to it as we speak… The all new Dott Cornwall flash calculator will be available at http:///ecodesignchallenge.co.uk/ecocalculator in the middle of December. Look out for an email update as soon as it goes live, check back here or go to www.ecodesignchallenge.co.uk on or after the 14th. In the meantime, the Dott’07 calculator is still available for you to play with here: Eco design calculator

Finally, it was brought to our attention that we didn’t mention the names of the digital media students who filmed the event on Friday. We will bring you those names as soon as we have them!
